Challenge
Grantmakers for Southern Progress sought to design and implement a strategic annual membership campaign to engage 35 pre-identified philanthropic partners and broaden their network of support. The organization needed thought leadership, data-driven insights, and operational support to refine its membership structure, engage potential members, and strengthen the capacity of its director and steering committee to build long-term partnerships.
Engaging 35 philanthropic partners was essential to broaden the support network.
Solution
Indigo Innovation Group collaborated with GSP to execute a three-phased membership campaign: planning, strategic implementation, and assessment/impact. Key activities included:
Supporting the director with thought leadership, technical expertise, and strategic guidance to address emerging initiatives and organizational priorities.
Refining campaign messaging, communication materials, and resources to engage prospective members effectively.
Coordinating program committee meetings to build consensus on campaign strategies, membership goals, and key offerings.
Launching a “soft launch” membership drive, engaging 35 pre-identified organizations and individuals to broaden GSP’s base of support.
Indigo also facilitated alignment between the director and program committee, ensuring a cohesive approach to engaging partners and advancing GSP’s mission.
Results
The campaign successfully engaged 35 organizations and individuals, strengthening relationships with key partners and building momentum for GSP’s membership campaign. Indigo’s guidance enhanced the organization’s capacity to refine messaging, coordinate membership efforts, and create a sustainable structure for long-term partnerships.
Impact
This initiative equipped GSP with a solidified membership strategy and a strengthened ability to connect with philanthropic partners. By refining its messaging and building internal capacity, GSP continues to advance its mission of driving progressive social change across Southern communities.
